What are the best photo locations around Hobart ?
I often get asked what are the best locations to take photos in Hobart so I decided to put together a little guide of my favourite spots to capture the beauty of Hobart and surrounds.
Hobart harbour
This unique harbour is one of Hobart’s best spots for photography. It has so many potential subjects that it really is a photographer’s playground.
This is the classic view of Hobart and Mt Wellington from Victoria Dock. This was taken about 45 minutes before sunrise on a still winter morning.

Mount Wellington / kunanyi
Mount Wellington aka The Mountain as locals call it (or kunanyi, the aboriginal name) is another obvious favourite for everyone. It takes about 30 minutes to drive up from Hobart. The weather can be extreme as it is at 1200m of altitude and exposed to winds.
Hobart sunrise from Mt Wellington… Tasman bridge, Hobart, the Derwent River… not a bad combination !
Make sure you take appropriate clothing as it can get pretty cold up there even in summer 🙂

Tasman Bridge
Tasman Bridge can be photographed from many locations but this one from the overpass above the highway leading into Hobart is a great spot, especially at dawn.
Lovely light trails leading to the Tasman Bridge and as always Mt Wellington in the background.

The Signal Station
The Signal Station on Mount Nelson is a good spot for photography with expansive vews of Hobart and the Derwent River. It is a good spot for night sky photography as well.
